e fact that almost one third of the Costa Brava and the Girona Pyrenees is natural protected area should give you a good idea of what you’ll find there: eight spectacularly contrasting natural parks, with just a few kilometres separating the snow-capped Pyrenean peaks from the Mediterranean’s most charming beaches and coves.
And in such a short distance there’s room for fishing villages and high mountain rural towns, for Romanesque monasteries and churches, for Iberian settlements, Greek and Roman ruins, Jewish quarters and mediaeval fortifications, and for the surrealist legacy of Salvador Dalí.
There’s also room for all sorts of fun activities: skiing, hiking, mountain biking, golf or enjoying the relaxing effects of thermal waters in a spa. And there's always room for sitting at a table and savouring a unique gastronomic experience, leaving the wonderful taste of our counties in your mouth.
Swimrun is a sport born in Nordic and Scandinavian countries in 2005. It is a combination of mountain running and open water swimming. This sport competition requires velocity, resistance and strategy. Practicing Swimrun gives, above all, an intense and exciting relation with the scenery (Sea and land scenarios) that athletes go through.
We are giving you a challenge: let your imagination soar and pretend to be a travel writer. You could choose to be Ulysses, Jules Verne or Stevenson. With a notepad under your arm, your destination will be Catalonia. Shall we begin?
When you arrive, the first thing you'll notice is the diverse landscape. The Mediterranean shows up in the story. This sea bathes the entire coast, which affects the character of the people here. It has been an entry point for many civilisations and cultures who have together woven the history of Catalonia and formed the Catalan culture: with its own language, Catalan, and multiple expressions.
But the sea is not all. To the north, the Catalan Pyrenees rise imposingly as the second natural border, where the rural world coexists with the new visitors, and also the 18 Natural Parks around the country.
